A Court Assistant works to support the judge at the local, state, and federal levels by undertaking clerical and administrative support duties that are related directly to the court’s operations. Some of the core duties are listed on the Court Assistant Resume as – preparing and filing court documents, checking information for accuracy; scheduling tasks; working as a receptionist; completing tasks in conjunction with other members of the office staff; creating records of courtroom proceedings, preparing briefs, and records; and completing clerical tasks including data entry and making copies.
The Court Assistants require at least a high school diploma or GED along with prior work experience in a similar position. Some courts prefer applicants with a degree in paralegal studies, business, secretarial studies, or a similar discipline. Prior work experience in a law firm is also desirable. Courts in some states also expect the candidates to pass the court assistant test. Other crucial skills including editing and proofreading skills; legal vocabulary knowledge, and knowledge of general office procedures and skills.
