A Freight Driver is responsible for driving the company’s freight vehicles for a variety of purposes. The job description includes keeping a record of vehicle inspections and ensuring the truck is equipped with safety equipment. Essential duties and responsibilities commonly found on the Freight Driver Resume are – transporting finished goods and raw materials; planning and managing distribution to manufacturing plants or retail and distribution centers, inspecting vehicles for mechanical items, performing preventive maintenance, planning best route options, documenting and logging work expenses, and collecting and verifying delivery instructions.
Those responsible for such freight delivery should possess these common attributes – the ability to drive long hours and travel regularly, good knowledge of truck driving rules and regulations; no driving violations, and experience with electronic equipment and software such as GPS, CB, and AVL. Formal education beyond a high school diploma or GED is not mandatory, however, possessing a valid driver’s license is required.
