A Podiatry Assistant works in a healthcare setting, and assists in providing treatment to people whose legs and feet have been affected by illness or injury. Also known as the foot care assistants, these individuals undertake and execute the following duties listed on the Podiatry Assistant Resume – ordering, organising and storing supplies, restocking exam rooms, sterilising equipment, setting up instruments, greeting patients, scheduling appointments, updating patient files, noting patient’s vital signs, performing physical exams, discussing treatment procedures with the patient; taking x-rays of patient’s legs, ankles and feet; and assisting with diabetic foot exams and performing other tasks as needed.
Such assistants need to be – willing to handle other people’s feet, calm and reassuring, caring and dedicated, the ability to follow procedure and instructions, the ability to explain treatment to patients, good manual skills, customer service skills, and a strong knowledge of diseases and conditions of the skin and nails. There are no set entry requirements to become a Podiatry assistant, however, employers expect good literacy and numeracy skills, and equivalent qualification in health and social care or healthcare.
