A Theater Usher is responsible for rendering customer service to the audience before, during, and after the performance and works mostly within the auditorium or theater. Some of the main responsibilities associated with the role are listed on the Theater Usher Resume as – greeting audience members in the building, selling refreshments and snacks during the interval, selling programs and souvenirs, settling seating disputes, guiding audience members to entrances, exits, and toilets; checking tickers and guiding members of the audience, ensuring audience are not using phone while recording equipment is working, and handling the audience in emergencies.
To become a desirable candidate for this role, one must possess the following skills – excellent communication skills, and customer service, the ability to take orders, confidence while settling disputes, and physical fitness to climb up and down the theater or auditorium stairs. Although there are no specific education requirements for this role, possessing a degree in subjects such as Drama, or theater studies will be useful.
